AFRICOM's 3rd General Assembly & Conference will be held at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from the 2nd to the -5th of December 2009. AFRICOM is working, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture,Tourism and Communication through the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage in Burkina Faso.

This event is expected to bring together over 300 participants, including:

AFRICOM members,
Members of ICOM ; its regional organisations and national committees,
Museum and heritage professionals around the world,
Representatives of cultural and natural heritage organisations: UNESCO, ICOMOS, ICCROM, UEMOA....
Representatives from the African Union(AU) and the Burkina Faso Government,
Funding and technical partners of AFRICOM
 
The General Assembly will be responsible for:
Electing members to the new Board of Directors 2009-2012;
Discussing the strategic plan and activities of AFRICOM for the next three years;
Evaluating the activities of the organisation

The International Conference: The chosen theme for the 3rd International Conference will be "New Museums for Africa: Change and Continuity". The conference will bring together heritage professionals from Africa and beyond to discuss the management, promotion and protection of diverse and rich cultural heritage of Africa. The theme will address the global challenges heritage institutions are facing in looking after this heritage on the African continent.

In consideration of Ouagadougou's rich cultural heritage, including the beautiful Sahelian architecture, this event promises to have stimulating academic discussions, as well as fascinating cultural events and experiences.

AFRICOM is fundraising for the organisation of the General Assembly and Conference.
