JOIN AFRICOM

AFRICOM is seeking to enhance membership benefits, and so requests African museums to offer free entry for AFRICOM members (valid card-holders). Please get in touch with AFRICOM if your museum is able to offer this or any other benefits.

Participate in the network of Museum Professionals of Africa. Help promote and protect African natural and cultural heritage, and support the development of African museums and museum-related institutions. There are already over 600 members in Africa and beyond. Become a member of AFRICOM! There are five (5) categories of membership:

African Institutional Members US$ 150
Museums or related institutions or other organisations working in Africa for the promotion of the cultural and natural heritage.

Non-African Institutional Members US$ 300
Museums or related institutions or other organisations working outside of Africa for the promotion of the cultural and natural heritage.

African Individual Members US$ 20

Working full-time or part-time in Africa, in Museums and assimilated institutions are defined in the AFRICOM Statutes
Within the limit of 30 per cent of the members, other persons who because of their experience or because of professional services rendered to a Museum, or a related organisation; or engaged in sectors of activities devoted to the preservation and promotion of the cultural and natural heritage in Africa, are deemed to be worthy of membership in AFRICOM
Former Museums professionals who have retired.

Non African Individual Members US$ 50
Individuals outside Africa who demonstrate a marked interest in the objectives of AFRICOM and can support the Museums in Africa.

Honorary Members
Persons who have rendered exceptional services to the African or to AFRICOM.

As a member you will be eligible to:

Attend and participate in the General Assembly of AFRICOM
Receive any newsletters or other publications of AFRICOM free
Receive an AFRICOM membership card that allows free entry/reduced rates to certain museums in Africa
Members have opportunity to access the Consultancy and Small Grants Fund which are supported by various Foundations.
Being listed in the AFRICOM Directory of museum professionals
Privileged access to AFRICOM Information centre collection which holds diverse digital reports, discussion papers and draft research reports on culture and heritage
AFRICOM –L mailing list which has regular alert for news on publications, conferences and job opportunities
Marketing your museum and cultural events in the annual AFRICOM newsletter.
AFRICOM website - an important international resource and information hub for anyone interested in information to support arts and cultural development. Heritage institutions also benefit from having a web page as well as links within the AFRICOM website.
AFRICOM offers its members opportunity to collaborate with each other as a network in developing various projects
Invitation and bursaries to participate in AFRICOM Conferences and General Assemblies as well as other capacity building forums that include exchange programmes

Individual members are entitled to seek election and vote in the elections. Institutional Members shall have two votes.
