WHAT'S ON

Hans Manneby Passes On

The heritage sector internationally has lost one very important member. Mr. Hans Manneby, for many years the Director of Bohuslans museum, Sweden and recently the Director of combined Museums of Western Sweden passed away on 20th March 2008.

Mr. Manneby was the first Chairman of the Executive Committee of Samp, the African-Swedish Museums Network, which plays an important role in the development of museums and museum professionals in Africa and Sweden through networking, professional exchanges and capacity building among other approaches.

As Director of Bohuslans, Hans was one of the first Swedish Museum Directors to enter into a twinship with an African Museum when Bohuslans twinned with Kisumu Museum, Kenya in the late 1980s. That is how much faith he had in the Samp initiative and believed in the need for intercontinental networking in the field of heritage.

We shall dearly miss Hans' contribution to hetitage worldwide. On behalf of the President and the total membership of AFRICOM, I take this opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and professional colleagues.

Peter Okwaro

AFRICOM Treasurer.
