NEW LIFE: NEW ENERGY AT THE SECRETARIAT!
It is with great excitement and joy that the Board of AFRICOM announces the appointment of the Senior Management team in the Secretariat of AFRICOM. We are pleased to say that it is with great confidence that a formidable team, with lengthy years of productive and fruitful service in heritage and fundraising have taken up their positions. This team, together with the competent and hardworking staff who have been at the Secretariat for the past nine years will be responsible for the implementation of the AFRICOM Strategic Plan
Dr Rudo Sithole has been appointed the Executive Director. Dr Sithole holds a doctorate in Entomology. She has served as the Director of the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe. During her time as head of this institution she facilitated the completion of the Old Bulawayo Theme Park which opened in 2006. She chaired the finalization of the now world acclaimed Matobo World Heritage Area Management Plan.
She has received numerous awards including the ICIPE-BMZ Scholarship to undertake her PhD Studies in 2000. She has also been a recipient of the Bio-Net International Fellowship in the UK and has presented and published scholarly papers at local, national, regional and international levels.
Among her numerous contributions within the sector, she has served as Vice President of the ICOM Committee on Natural History Collections and Biodiversity, as an Advisory Board Member in the Carnivore Research Unit in Zimbabwe and as country co-coordinator for Bio-Net International.
Mr Pascall Taruvinga holds an MA in Heritage Studies and is an archaeologist by training. He has served as Director of Research and Development in the National Monuments and Museums of Zimbabwe, head of Archaeology in the Northern Region of Zimbabwe and part time lecturer.
His national, regional and international level experience in the sector includes; SAREC, NORAD, SAMP, PREMA, CHDA, ICCROM, World Heritage Centre, ICOM and ICOMOS. He has published widely in newsletters, books, conference proceedings and journals. He has been appointed the Programs Manager of AFRICOM.
